Starch is fattening

Some weight loss diets restrict carbohydrate-rich foods such as pasta, potatoes, rice, breads, porridges and cereals.
Carbohydrates(starches) break down into glucose which is the preferred energy fuel for the body. If glucose is not used immediately it gets stored in the liver & muscle tissue to be used to maintain blood sugar levels and sustain your energy between meals.  

Only excess will be stored as fat.

Diets low in carbs do not provide enough energy, this depletes your glucose stores. 1g of glucose holds 2g of water when stored. Depleting glucose; depletes water, causes dehydration & a lack of energy. This shows weight loss on the scale, but not fat loss. It is important not to eat too much or too little.

Only eat fruit in the morning

This is based on the thought that the carbs found in fruit, if not burnt for energy during the day will be stored as fat overnight.

Only carbs eaten in excess will be stored as fat.

Last nights pear will only be used when energy is needed…unless you eating excess carbs and saturate your storage capacity. So stay away from eating too many carbs regardless of when you eat them.

Drinking with meals may be fattening

It is believed by some that drinking with meals dilutes your digestive enzymes rendering them less effective, leading to slower digestion and accumulating excess body fat.

This is false.

Liquids actually help digestive enzymes to digest food more effectively. Liquids also cause the stomach to stretch, giving you the feeling of fullness. You therefore eat less >> less food >> less energy >> weight loss.

So in actual fact, it can help to drink small amounts of liquids with meals.

Avoid combining foods

Many diets claim that foods should not be combined together. This does not make sense as the human digestive system is very complex and is designed to digest many different types of foods at one time.

The smell of, and chewing food stimulates the excretion of digestive juices which contain a combination of enzymes, some to digest proteins others for carbohydrates and fats.

Magical foods that cause weight loss

Foods that claim to burn body fat and cause weight loss include grapefruit, apple cider vinegar, cinnamon, high protein foods and black filter coffee.

There are no scientific studies to prove these claims.

These foods are known to cause satiety (feeling satisfied) and prevent you from eating too much.

It takes 20 minutes for your stomach to tell your brain that it is full.

So eat slowly and allow the stomach and brain to communicate with each other. Don’t overeat. Wait 20 minutes before your second helping.
